Announcing 44.audio

We’ve spent the last year building 44, and today we’re opening it up to everyone.

44 is the fastest way to add voice recording and playback to your web app. One line of code. That’s it.

No audio codecs. No browser quirks. No infrastructure. Just voice.

Why we built this

We kept running into the same problem: adding voice to a product is way harder than it should be.

You want to let users leave a voice note? Great. Now you need to handle microphone permissions across browsers, figure out audio encoding, build a player, set up storage, handle streaming, deal with Safari being Safari, and somehow make it all feel good.

Most teams either give up or hack together something brittle that breaks every few months.

We thought: what if voice was as easy to add as a form input? What if you could drop in a component and just have it work?

That’s 44.

What you get

Drop-in components. Our recorder and player work everywhere. One HTML tag, no polyfills, no browser hacks. We handle microphone permissions, encoding, compression, and upload automatically.

Hosting on the edge. Every recording is stored and delivered via Cloudflare’s global CDN. Fast playback, anywhere in the world.

Automatic transcription. Every recording is transcribed in 30+ languages. No extra API calls, no waiting. It just happens.

Events for everything. State changes, errors, progress—we emit events for all of it. Build whatever UI you want on top.

A dashboard that makes sense. Browse, search, and manage all your recordings in one place. Invite your team. Organize by project.

Why voice matters

Text is efficient. Voice is human.

There’s a reason voice notes took over messaging apps. There’s a reason podcasts exploded. There’s a reason people leave voice memos to themselves instead of typing notes.

Voice carries tone, emotion, nuance. It’s faster to produce and often easier to consume. It makes products feel more personal.

But on the web, voice has been stuck. Too hard to implement, too easy to get wrong.

We want to change that. We want every product to be able to add voice as easily as they add a text input.

Who this is for

If you’re building any of these, 44 can help:

  • Voice feedback — Let users speak instead of type
  • Audio journals — Personal voice notes, saved and transcribed
  • Async collaboration — Voice messages in your product
  • Accessibility — Voice input for users who can’t type
  • Language learning — Record, playback, compare
  • Customer research — Capture voice of the customer, literally

We’ve seen teams ship voice features in an afternoon that would have taken weeks to build from scratch.

Try it free

We’re offering a free tier with 20 minutes of voice storage. No credit card required. Just sign up and start building.

If you’re working on something interesting with voice, we’d love to hear about it. We’re still early and actively building based on what developers need.

Welcome to 44. Let’s make the web sound more human.
